Ornithine Cautions

Certain people should not take ornithine supplements:
- People with liver or kidney disease
- People with any type of medical condition (ie diabetes, heart disease)
- People with an active herpes infection
- People with any type of psychosis
- People with schizophrenia
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
People with any of the conditions above should consult their doctor before taking any ornithine supplements, as it could make their condition worse.

Toxic Levels of Ornithine
Ornithine is generally non-toxic, but can produce some toxicity at really high doses, such as at doses greater than 10,000mg (10g) per day.
Overdosage and Toxicity Symptoms
Supplements greater than 10,000mg (or 10g) can cause the following side effect symptoms:
- Stomach cramps and pains
- Insomnia
People experiencing any side effects should discontinue their supplements and then only use lower levels or stop supplementation altogether.
