Tolerable Upper Limit

A tolerable upper limit for boron has been established - this is the maximum that can be safely taken of this mineral before it may produce serious and toxic side effects:

  • Infants (0- 12 months) - not established *
  • Children (1-3 years) - 3mg
  • Children (4-8 years) - 6mg
  • Children (9-13 years) - 11mg
  • Children (14-18 years) - 17mg
  • Adults (>19 years) - 20mg
  • Pregnant and lactating women (<18 years) - 17mg
  • Pregnant and lactating women (19-50 years) - 20mg

* There is no known or established upper limit of boron for infants between the ages of 0-12 months. Infants should obtain adequate levels of boron from either their mother's breast milk or from baby formula.
