Alanine Cautions

Certain people should not take alanine supplements:

  • People with liver or kidney disease
  • People with any type of medical condition
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding

Alanine supplements may adversely affect people who have kidney or liver disease, so they should seek medical advice if supplementation is required.

The effect of alanine supplements on the unborn child and also on the baby are not known and thus not safe to take.

Toxic Levels of Alanine

Alanine is essentially non-toxic, but may produce some minor (and usually reversible) toxicity at doses greater than 2000mg per day.

Overdosage and Toxicity Symptoms

In general, alanine supplementation does not cause any serious or adverse health effects on healthy adults, but excessive doses are not advised in any case. It is better to get adequate alanine intake from protein foods in the diet.
