Valine Cautions

Valine supplements need to be taken together with isoleucine and leucine to ensure the balance of these amino acids is in the correct ratio. 1 mg of isoleucine for 2mg each of leucine and valine.

In general, valine supplements produce no major problems for otherwise healthy individuals, but certain people should not take valine supplements without first consulting their doctor for advice:

  • People with liver or kidney disease
  • People with any type of medical condition
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding

People with any of the conditions above should consult their doctor before taking any valine supplements, as it could make their condition much worse.

Toxic Levels of Valine

Valine is generally non-toxic, but can produce some toxicity at doses greater than 6000mg per day.

Overdosage and Toxicity Symptoms

Supplements with really high doses of valine can cause the following side effect symptoms:

  • Crawling sensation on the skin
  • Hallucinations

People experiencing any side effects should discontinue their supplements and then only use lower levels or stop supplementation altogether.
