If you do not eat enough foods high in betacarotene, and do not eat foods rich in vitamin A, you may become deficient in betacarotene. Deficiency symptoms of betacarotene, while not common, are the same as those of vitamin A deficiency .
Betacarotene deficiency is rare and deficiency symptoms are the same as those of vitamin A deficiency.
Vitamin A, if not sufficient in the diet, can result in deficiency of this vital nutrient. Symptoms of vitamin A deficiency are:
- Dry eyes that go red and tired easily
- Dry skin and hair
- Night blindness
- Skin disorders, such as eczema, acne or even uneven skin tone
- Frequent colds and other respiratory illness, such as asthma and sinusitis
If vitamin A deficiency becomes really severe, the cornea of the eye may ulcerate and permanent blindness can follow.
