- Alcohol
People who drink excessive amounts of alcohol may have depleted stores of vitamin E in the body and may need supplementation. - Cod liver oil
People taking cod liver do not need to take extra vitamin E supplementation, as most cod liver oil products have vitamin E added, to prevent oxidation of the oil. - Olestra fat substitute
People who take vitamin E supplements and eat the fat substitute olestra will decrease the absorption, effectiveness and action of the vitamin E supplements. It is advisable not to eat this fat substitute if taking vitamin E supplements. - Tobacco
Tobacco reduces absorption of vitamin E, so people who smoke cigarettes may become deficient and need supplementation.

Vitamin E has an effect on the following lab tests:
- Serum cholesterol
- Serum triglycerides
Both serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels may be higher than normal when people take very large doses of vitamin E supplements.
