Vitamin E Lab Test & Other Interactions

Vitamin E has interactions with other substances as follows:

  • Alcohol
People who drink excessive amounts of alcohol may have depleted stores of vitamin E in the body and may need supplementation.
  • Cod liver oil
People taking cod liver do not need to take extra vitamin E supplementation, as most cod liver oil products have vitamin E added, to prevent oxidation of the oil.
  • Olestra fat substitute
People who take vitamin E supplements and eat the fat substitute olestra will decrease the absorption, effectiveness and action of the vitamin E supplements. It is advisable not to eat this fat substitute if taking vitamin E supplements.
  • Tobacco
Tobacco reduces absorption of vitamin E, so people who smoke cigarettes may become deficient and need supplementation.
Vitamin E supplements have an effect on some blood test - causing incorrect results
