
Perricone Diet

The Perricone diet was created by Dr Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist, as a way to reduce the inflammation in the body and prevent ill health and ageing. Dr Perricone has written several books promoting his special anti-inflammatory diet which have been well-received.
The Perricone diet, unusually, does not focus on weight loss, rather it focuses on stabilising blood glucose levels and reducing inflammation in the body by the utilisation of:
- Special diet that reduces inflammation
- Supplements provided by Dr Perricone (which are promoted as a requirement for this diet to work effectively)
- Anti-ageing face and body creams and lotions, which are promoted as a requirement for this diet to work effectively

The basics of the Perricone diet are:
- Eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks each day
- Ensure to eat a lot of wild salmon and berries each day
- Always eat protein before any carbohydrates are consumed
- Supplements are recommended each day
- Special skin care lotions are recommended to be used each day
- Exercise for at least 30 minutes each day
- Every meal/snack must include protein, low GI carbs and EFA
- Eat fresh fruit at the end of a meal
- Strength training is recommended at least twice a week
- Recommends organic poultry and dairy foods
- Recommends organic for other produce as best choice
- The diet should be tried for at least 28 days to get benefits
- Look for the hidden sugars in foods and eliminate them
- Dr Perricone views sugar as toxic to the body
- Avoid all forms of MSG in any foods as it has inflammatory properties
- Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day

In his book, Dr Perricone advises that each meal or snack should consists of foods containing protein, low GI carbohydrates and essential fatty acids (EFA). Dr Perricone also advises that fresh fruit should be eaten at the end of a meal to prevent the spike in glucose release, thus triggering insulin, which can cause more fat to be stored.
