Glutathione Cautions

Supplementation with cysteine increases the requirement for glutathione. Apart from this requirement, there are no known adverse effects of taking glutathione supplements or any specific adverse drug interactions.

In general, glutathione supplements produce no major problems for otherwise healthy individuals, but certain people should not take glutathione supplements without first consulting their doctor for advice:

  • People with liver or kidney disease
  • People with any type of medical condition
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
Supplementation with the non-essential amino acid cysteine increases the requirement for glutathione supplementation

Toxic Levels of Glutathione

Glutathione is essentially non-toxic, but really high levels should not be taken as the toxicity of this amino acid has not been established (unless under medical supervision).

Overdosage and Toxicity Symptoms
